Benjamin Franklin: Music for His 300th Birthday

Dr. David Hildebrand brings to life the varied music Benjamin Franklin knew and enjoyed during his long and eventful life. Always an advocate for the common folk, Franklin delighted in sentimental Scots songs and broadside ballads. He authored comical texts to be sung as drinking songs, and he had country dance tunes named in his honor – there is even a song in Franklin’s honor composed by a Parisian Priest. Yet as a diplomat and gentleman he was frequently at the Opera and at concerts in Philadelphia, Paris and London. The presentation includes visuals, recorded examples, and period instruments including harpsichord, Spanish guitar, English flute and voice.
