HISTORIC AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITIES IN BALTIMORE COUNTY

Most of the historic African American communities in Baltimore County are virtually unknown to people in Maryland as well as many local residents. Sharing a selection of his 8,000 photographs, Louis Diggs explores the origin of these communities, the role of African-American churches in the communities, contributions of local citizens, and education and social life. Adult and high school audiences


Louis Diggs is a retired Supervisory Personnel Staffing Specialist for the Washington, D.C. Public Schools and is also retired from the military. Upon retirement, Mr. Diggs was a substitute teacher at Catonsville High School. He has published eight books on all forty of the historic African-American communities in Baltimore County. He received his B.A. and an M.A. degree in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore and has done post graduate work at George Washington University.
