Poetry Chat with Maryland’s Poet Laureate

Enjoy a lively interchange with Maryland's Poet Laureate. Continuing in a rich literary tradition, Stanley Plumly, our state's ninth Poet Laureate shares his writing and insight on the role of poetry in daily life. This program will approach poetry from a variety of perspectives.

Participants will not only experience Plumly's own award-winning poetry and prose through a reading and discussion of his work, but also learn of the life and legacy of the Romantic poet John Keats and the influence of other practitioners of the art, and be inspired by the power of words and language to add dimension and meaning to the human experience.

For adult audiences.

Plumly is a distinguished Maryland University Professor and founder of the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is also the author of nine books of poetry. His poems, essays, articles and reviews have appeared in many leading periodicals and newspapers. He is the recipient of several awards including eight Pushcart Prizes, the Paterson Poetry Prize (2007), an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (2002) and a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation (2001).
