WHAT DOES IT MEAN? READING, UNDERSTANDING, AND LOVING POETRY

Haven't read a poem since you were in high school? Wish you could better understand the poems that are being written today? Poet Sue Ellen Thompson shows participants how to approach a poem in a way that will make its meaning more accessible. By looking closely at poems written by living American poets, learn how to appreciate the craft involved and, more importantly, how poetry can confirm, inspire, entertain, and console.

Sue Ellen Thompson is the author of four volumes of poetry, most recently The Golden Hour (Autumn House Press, 2006), and the editor of The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry.  Nominated twice for the Pulitzer Prize, she has taught at Middlebury College, Wesleyan University, Binghamton University, and Central Connecticut State University.  She was resident poet at The Frost Place in Franconia, NH, in 1998 and relocated from New England to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 2006.
