Bethlehem Steel: The Words of Workers

With the business side well-documented--the allocation of assets, the global impact of steel industry consolidation--Bill Barry shows us the human face of the transition of the Bethlehem Steel facility at Sparrow's Point. Through documentary and lecture, Barry portrays the conflicts of skill, race and gender that shaped life at "The Point," and discusses the value of oral history in recording workers' memories and experiences. Requires video player and television monitor. Adult, high school, and middle school audiences.

Bill Barry served as the Director of Labor Studies at the Community College of Baltimore County, Dundalk campus for over 15 years. Professor Barry conducts extensive community programs on such diverse topics as workplace laws, sexual harassment, indoor air quality, group dynamics, and workers’ history, with an emphasis on oral history. He holds an M.A. in history from the Universidad de las Americas, Mexico City and a B.A. in English from Williams College.
