"Looking at the past not only enhanced my knowledge of people, places, and events in history, but also gave me a better understanding of the person I am today--my character, my personality, my dynamics within my family--and the person I wish to become." Lauren White, senior at Huntington High School in Calvert County.
Maryland History Day is an exciting program that encourages students in grades 6 to 12 to explore a historical subject related to an annual theme. The theme for 2011 is "Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences." Read about it here.
Students bring history to life as their research leads to imaginative exhibits, original performances, informative documentaries, interactive Web sites and historical research papers. Each category is then divided into two divisions, junior (6th to 8th grade) and senior (9th to 12th) division. History Day demonstrates that students learn history when they do history.
