Dennis D. Jutras has been named as a finalist for the Richard T. Farrell Teacher of Merit Award. The award is the highest honor given to a teacher by National History Day, an annual, national history contest that encourages middle and high school students to create history projects that sharpen their research and critical thinking skills. Jutras will be honored as a finalist at the National History Day opening ceremony on Sunday, June 15, at 6:00 pm. The grand winner will be announced at the NHD awards ceremony on Thursday, June 19. “In the broad scope of one’s life, there are few people that will forever stand out, but next to my family and close friends, I doubt that there is any person that has meant more to my life and success than Dennis Jutras,” wrote Kevin Tolson in a letter recommending Jutras. Tolson, a former student of Jutras, worked with peer Samuel McLaughlin on the well-received documentary, Blazing a Trail Before Brown.
