As part of 2009 Chautauqua, “Rights and Reformers,” scholar/actors will bring to life the personalities and accomplishments of legendary figures Eleanor Roosevelt, Woody Guthrie, and Jackie Roosevelt, along with a special performance by 2009 Southern Garrett High School graduate Joanna Guy. Guy will interpret the life of 20th century women’s rights activist and social reformer Alice Paul.

Binding Spines: A Bookmaking Project

Looking to explore your creative side by combining writing with arts and crafts? Join in the fun, and make your own book of poems with poet Mary Azrael. Participants in this hands-on workshop will learn to make their own personal book from a variety of very simple and beautiful structures such as accordion fold, stab binding, and hidden books. Come write a poem and leave with a hand-crafted book!

Amelia Earhart: Dreams Take Flight

Amelia Earhart was much more than a courageous aviatrix. She was also a photographer, truck driver, avid student and teacher, volunteer nurse, social worker, and even a clothes designer. In this Living History presentation, Mary Ann Jung portrays Earhart in this soaring tribute to the spirited heroine of both aviation and women's rights.

2nd Annual Chesapeake Folk Festival

Centennial Homes Project Presentation

The Baltimore Centennial Homes Project, sponsored by Baltimore Heritage, recognizes families that have lived in the same house for over 100 years. Take part in this event to honor the first Baltimore Centennial Homes family, the Pente family, in Baltimore’s Little Italy neighborhood. The Pente's will receive a plaque for the outside of their house in a presentation that will take place immediately before the filming of the featured movie in the Little Italy Film Festival. This program is funded by a grant from the PNC Foundation Legacy Project.
