MHC Grants Workshop, Jan 2010

FREE GRANTS WORKSHOP FOR POTENTIAL APPLICANTS

MHC seeks to develop new relationships with Maryland non-profit organizations that engage the public through humanities-based programming.  The workshop is designed for potential applicant organizations that would like to learn about the MHC grant process.  MHC staff will walk participants through the steps for completing its on-line grant application, review grant guidelines, and discuss strategies for successful completion of your proposal.  In addition, immediately following the workshop,  museum staff will be conducting a behind the scenes tour.
Space is limited.

Directions:

From Washington, D.C. - Take State Route 4 South from the Washington Beltway to State Route 2-4 to Solomons.

From Baltimore - Take Interstate 97 south from the Baltimore Beltway, to Route 2 South. Continue south on Route 2-4 to Solomons.

You can also take I-97 south to the Aris T. Allen Boulevard exit (Route 665), then follow signs for Solomons Island, Route 2 South. Go south on Route 2, following signs for Prince Frederick. Route 2 will join with Route 4 - make a left from Route 2 onto Route 2-4 South. Follow Route 2-4 South to Solomons.

Once in Solomons, stay in the right lane of Route 2-4. It will exit to Route 2, passing under the Thomas Johnson Bridge. Make a left at the stop sign, drive approximately 200 yards, and the museum will be right in front of you.

New Book Chronicles MICA's 200 Years

MICA's new publicationDid you know that MICA’s Great Hall was a hospital during the Civil War, treating 700 Antietam soldiers? The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) has just published Making History / Making Art / MICA, with support from MHC. Written by Vice President for Development Emeritus Douglas L. Frost, the book offers a flowing narrative and hundreds of images.  The book can be bought via their online bookstore at www.mica.edu/historybook  or by calling 410.225.2276.

Choose Civility Symposium: The Role of Civility in Democracy

More than 250 people attended the 2010 Choose Civility Symposium featuring NPR's Korva Coleman, P.M. Forni from Johns Hopkins, William Griffith from The George Washington University, University System of Georgia's Susan Herbst and Centennial High School student Sara Calvert.

Adults and students engaged the panel and one another in a robust discussion about the role of civility in democracy. Click here to watch the video! (You may have to download Silverlight software in order to watch the video.)
