Practicing Democracy Grants

MHC's newest program Practicing Democracy: Seeking Common Ground, strives to gather people together with different opinions and ideological approaches for conversations that will produce real and respectful debate. Major Grants and Opportunity Grants funding will be available to support public programs designed to do the same.

MHC has identified the following five areas of focus for 2010:

  • The Environment
  • Sustainability
  • Real Estate Development
  • Historic Preservation
  • Transportation

Practicing Democracy grant projects can be in a variety of formats, but they must be designed to engage participants with divergent viewpoints in an interactive discussion about the issues, and they must use the humanities as the central resource to inform those conversations.

Practicing Democracy grant projects submitted as Major Grant proposals will provide funding up to $10,000. Projects submitted as Opportunity Grant proposals will provide funding up to $1,200.
