Overview
Grants fall into two funding levels:
Major Grants
- Awards up to $10,000
- Letters of Inquiry due September 1 and March 1 of each year*
- Final grant applications are due October 15 and April 15 of each year*

Opportunity Grants
- Awards up to $1,200
For more information, click here.
- Final grant applications are due January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, and November 1 of each year* with notification within 30 days
- Project must be completed within one year of award

Intrducing our newest Grant:
Practicing Democracy Grants
MHC's newest program Practicing Democracy: Seeking Common Ground, strives to gather people together with different opinions and ideological approaches for conversations that will produce real and respectful debate.
MHC has identified the following five areas of focus for 2010: The Environment, Sustainability, Real Estate Development, Historic Preservation, and Transportation.
- Major Grants and Opportunity Grants funding is available to support public programs designed to produce respectful debate around a critical issue.
- Practicing Democracy grant projects submitted as Major Grant proposals will provide funding up to $10,000.
- Practicing Democracy grant projects may also be submitted as Opportunity Grant for awards up to $1,200

- Open Grants support public humanities programs that do not fall into the Practicing Democracy grant category.
