You already know that the humanities are a relevant and enriching part of your life. Now, we are asking for your help in bringing humanities-based Community Conversations to cities and towns across Maryland.

2008 will be a year of extraordinary activity as MHC moves ahead with its Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Remembrance and Reconciliation initiative, which invites all Marylanders to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King and to discuss the current state of race relations in their communities. Community Conversations is the centerpiece of this exciting initiative.

Working in partnership with schools, churches, and civic organizations, MHC provides the resources for groups to:

  • Read, listen to, or watch a humanities piece, such as a poem, story, sermon, essay, speech, or, film clip; and
  • Discuss, with assistance from a trained facilitator, the opinions and ideas about race relations that grow out of the humanities piece.

In addition to Community Conversations, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Remembrance and Reconciliation will encompass traditional MHC programs, including Maryland History Day her Maryland History Day, Chautauqua 2008, Letters About Literature, and MHC’s new program, One Maryland/One Book.

MHC asks you to help by making a donation to the Maryland Humanities Council.
