Chautauqua 2010 “Beyond Boundaries” Recap and Highlights
“More Chautauqua!”-audience member at this years Chautauqua
This year’s Chautauqua really went “Beyond Boundaries!” Events took place in all regions of the state — under the sweeping Chautauqua tent at Garrett College, inside cool theaters at Montgomery College and on the campus at CCBC, in the Avalon in Easton, in a Perryville Outlet Center retail space converted to a performance venue, in a retirement center along a river in Easton and outdoors in a scenic public park.
Audience members were trilled to see Thurgood Marshall, Sacagawea and Frederick Law Olmsted come to life before their eyes! Here are just a few of the comments from audience members in Montgomery College and Garrett County.
“When I was growing up I never appreciated the study of history all that much, but I have come to realize over the years that it was the way it was presented, not the subject.”
“Wouldn’t miss the annual Chautauqua! We plan our vacation around it.”
“I love seeing programs about people who chose to make a difference. It demonstrates how one person can inspire change.”
“Gerry Wright’s portrayal of Frederick Law Olmsted was outstanding. So was the music provided by Andrew McKnight. Thanks and keep up the good work!”
“Thurgood Marshall is the best I heard at Chautauqua—excellent actor but mainly so knowledgeable.”
“Keep up the great programs! Good range of topics: politics, the arts, social movements. I like the balance your programs have shown.”
