It’s that Time of Year Again…

The air is crisper, jackets are back, and when you look at the leaves, they’re just beginning to turn. It must be…Book Festival season once again!

The three main book festivals in our area are the Baltimore Book Festival September 25, 26 and 27, the National Book Festival September 26 and the Capital Book Festival October 3.

Of all three, I’m most excited about the Baltimore Book Festival since it takes place in the lovely Mt. Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore and because author James McBride (of Song Yet Sung) will be speaking Sunday, September 27 at noon. Other authors I’d love to see are Gwen Ifill, Ralph Nader and Maureen McCormick (Marsha Brady)! See www.baltimorebookfestival.com for details.

The National Book Festival is also a treat since it takes place on the National Mall in D.C. Is there a more perfect place for a book festival in our nation’s capitol? And what a lineup! Authors Judy Blume (I loved her books when I was a kid), Nicolas Sparks and Paula Deen will be there to sign books! See www.loc.gov/bookfest/ for details.

The Capitol Book Festival takes place in Largo, Maryland at the Town Center. Highlights of this festival include a talk by Liza Mundy, author of Michelle Obama: A Biography, children’s storytelling and the Book-in-a-Day student authors. See www.capitalbookfest.org/ for details.

I hope our readers can get out and enjoy the changing weather and the exciting book festivals in our area this fall!
