Volunteer Opportunities
Position title: Program Volunteer
Position description: Under direction of MHC staff, assist in research, writing, marketing, program logistics and preparation, evaluation, and outreach activities for Council programs such as Speakers Bureau, History Day, Chautauqua, Maryland Center for the Book, Grants, and Community Conversations. Some routine office work such as mailings, data entry, and online programming is part of this position.
Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Word and databases, excellent writing skills. Volunteers should be detail-oriented, self starters, able to take direction. Interest or experience in the arts or humanities is helpful.
Time commitment: Program Volunteers work on a regularly scheduled basis. Hours can be flexible; time recommended minimum 3-4 hours per week.
Location: MHC headquarters, 108 West Centre Street, Baltimore
Position title: Festival and Event Volunteer
Position description: Assist with promoting MHC at Book Festivals and other events. Distribute promotional literature at the MHC booth and talk to festival goers about MHC.
Skills: Requires excellent people skills. Many of the festivals are held outside. Must be familiar with MHC operations and MHC programs.
